Travel Tips

If any of you travelers have tips you'd like to share, in light of the new security regulations, please send them to cbobik@bobik.com

We'll use your name and city, if you like.

We can't promise to publish them all, but we'll do our best. (Some may be edited for content.)

Sue from Albuquerque sends this tip: Pack a scented candle in your luggage…not only does it get rid of ‘eau de jet fuel’, it will take away that musty hotel smell.

Tuck a plastic bag in the corner of your carryon filled with band-aids, antacids, and your favorite headache remedy. You’ll thank yourself when the flight is delayed for the umpteenth time. Remember, all prescription lables must match the name on your ticket, and non-prescription medications must be clearly labled. Pastes, gels, non-solid cosmetics, and a number of other items must be packed in your checked baggage. Check with your airline or the TSA page if you have questions.

Have you tried rolling jerseys and sweaters, instead of folding them? Once you master the technique, you’ll find many fewer wrinkles, and they take up less space.

Don’t forget to take a good supply of plastic zip bags in various sizes. They make a great ice pack, for a sprained ankle or a headache. We’d like to see how many readers can come up with other uses…just send them to us and we’ll share them.

When you check into a hotel, ask for a couple of extra pillows. They may be nicer than the lumpy ones on the bed. And…don’t forget to ask for an upgraded room. You never know what you may get until you try.

Try putting your clothes on hangers, covering them with a plastic dry cleaners' bag, and folding them in thirds on top of your suitcase. They'll arrive with a minimum of wrinkles.

Don't forget to pack a few plastic food bags, both large and small. They're great for that leftover breakfast muffin, damp clothes that didn't dry overnight, stationery supplies, etc. We're sure you'll think of a million more uses. And the best part is that they take very little space to pack.
